Vaportek VCI Anti-Rust Paper Roll 900mm x 200m 50gsm
Vaportek VCI anti-rust paper roll — 900mm wide, 200m long, 50gsm kraft paper impregnated with Volatile Corrosion Inhibitor to protect ferrous metal parts from rust and corrosion in transit and storage. Releases corrosion-inhibiting vapour molecules that form an invisible, dry protective layer on metal surfaces — no greasy residue, no cleaning required before use. Ideal for wrapping machined parts, interleaving between stacked components, and lining export crates. Fast UK delivery from Datec, Coventry.
Vaportek VCI Anti-Rust Paper — How It Works
VCI (Volatile Corrosion Inhibitor) paper works by slowly releasing corrosion-inhibiting vapour molecules from the paper itself into the enclosed space around the metal. These molecules settle on the metal surface and form an invisible, dry, monomolecular protective layer that blocks moisture and oxygen from reaching the metal — stopping rust and corrosion from forming without leaving any greasy or oily residue on the parts.
Unlike oil or grease-based rust prevention, VCI paper leaves no residue that needs to be cleaned off before the parts are used. Simply wrap the metal parts in Vaportek VCI paper, store or ship, then unwrap and use — the parts are clean and ready to go.

What Metals Does VCI Paper Protect?
This Vaportek VCI paper is formulated to protect ferrous metals — steel, cast iron, wrought iron, and other iron-based alloys. It is not suitable as the primary corrosion protection for non-ferrous metals such as aluminium, copper, brass, or zinc, though it will not damage these metals if they are present alongside ferrous parts in the same package.
For non-ferrous metal protection, a VCI formulation specifically designed for non-ferrous or multi-metal applications is recommended. Call 02476 611234 for advice on the right VCI specification for your application.
Common Applications
- Machined steel components — wrapping or interleaving between parts during storage and transit to prevent rust forming on precision-ground surfaces
- Cast iron parts — particularly important for cast iron which corrodes rapidly in humid conditions
- Tools and tooling — protecting cutting tools, dies, moulds, and jigs in storage
- Automotive parts — protecting steel stampings, castings, and machined components during shipping
- Agricultural machinery parts — seasonal storage protection for steel components
- Export shipments — protecting steel parts during long sea freight transits where humidity exposure is high
- Interleaving — placing sheets of VCI paper between stacked metal parts to prevent contact corrosion and surface rust
VCI Paper vs VCI Polythene — Which Do You Need?
VCI paper is ideal for wrapping individual parts or interleaving between stacked components. The kraft paper backing provides physical surface protection as well as VCI protection, making it particularly good for parts with delicate machined surfaces where scratching is a concern.
VCI polythene bags and sheeting provide a sealed environment around the parts, which gives longer-lasting VCI protection — the vapour is trapped inside the bag rather than slowly dissipating. VCI polythene is better for long-term storage (months rather than weeks) or for parts that will be repackaged and stored multiple times. Browse our full VCI polythene range.
Need Physical Surface Protection Too?
For parts that also need protection from surface scratches and abrasion during handling and transit, our protective net sleeving range can be used alongside VCI paper — the net sleeving provides surface protection while the VCI paper provides corrosion protection. A common combination for high-value machined components.
