Why corrugated is the easy win under EPR
Most of the work in reducing your EPR fees is about moving packaging out of high-fee materials like plastic and composite. Corrugated cardboard starts in the right place: it's paper-based, so it sits in one of the lowest base-fee material categories, and it's collected at kerbside by virtually every UK local authority — which means it's well placed for a strong recyclability rating rather than a red multiplier.
So with boxes, you're not fighting the material — you're optimising it. Two levers do that:
- Weight. EPR fees are charged per tonne, so a lighter box that does the same job costs less to put on the market. This is where board grade and fluting matter.
- Size. A right-sized box uses less material per parcel and avoids the paper void fill needed to pad out an oversized one — less weight in two places at once.
SMART fluting: same strength, less weight, lower tonnage
This is the lever most box suppliers don't offer. Our SMART fluting gives higher rigidity at a lower weight than standard board of equivalent strength.
Because EPR fees are charged by weight, a box that hits the same strength specification with less board means less tonnage placed on the market — and a directly lower per-tonne fee. It's the box equivalent of switching to thinner-but-stronger stretch film: same protection, less material, lower cost.
It's still the same recyclable corrugated, collected and recycled the same way — SMART fluting doesn't change the recyclability, it changes the weight. The saving comes from the tonnage, which is exactly what EPR charges on.
For high-volume shippers, even a small weight reduction per box compounds quickly across thousands of parcels.
What you could save
With boxes the saving comes from weight, not material switching — you're already in a low-fee category. SMART fluting and right-sizing reduce the tonnage you place on the market, and because fees are per tonne, less weight is a direct saving that compounds across volume.

Single & double wall boxes
Standard corrugated boxes in single wall for everyday items and double wall for heavier or fragile goods — recyclable kerbside, available in SMART fluting to cut weight without losing strength.
Die-cut mailing boxes
Self-locking die-cut boxes that fold flat and assemble without tape — a clean, tape-free, fully recyclable mailer for retail and ecommerce dispatch.
Postal & self-seal boxes
Postal boxes with a peel-and-seal strip for fast, secure packing — recyclable corrugated that seals without plastic tape, keeping the parcel a single fibre stream. For taped formats, pair with gummed paper tape to keep the whole parcel paper.
Cardboard mailers
Lightweight corrugated mailers for books, media and flat goods — strong, plastic-free protection that recycles with kerbside cardboard.
Letterbox boxes
Slim boxes sized to fit through a standard UK letterbox — reduce failed deliveries while staying lightweight and fully recyclable.
Book wrap mailers
Self-locking corrugated wrap that folds tightly around books, prints and flat rigid items — naturally mono-material, plastic-free, recycled kerbside as one fibre stream. Also part of our mono-material mailing range.
Solid board mailers
Rigid solid-board mailers for documents, photos and flat goods needing extra stiffness — strong, plastic-free, and recycled in the paper stream.
Large-format & pallet boxes
Heavy-duty boxes for bulky and palletised goods — available in SMART fluting and double wall to balance strength against the weight you're charged on.

Every product below is chosen to help lower your EPR fees — by switching to a lower-fee material category, cutting weight, or keeping packaging a single recyclable stream. Start with the EPR-friendly packaging hub for how the fees work, or go straight to a product family:
- Mono-material mailing bags — paper mailers that replace two-material bubble-lined bags, assessed as a single paper component.
- Paper protective packaging & void fill — paper void fill, bubble wrap and honeycomb that replace plastic, recycled in one paper stream.
- Recyclable cardboard boxes — the lowest-fee mainstream material, with SMART fluting to cut weight without losing strength. You're here already!
- Paper tape & closures — gummed paper tape that seals boxes and recycles with them as one fibre stream.
- Lightweight stretch film — thinner, stronger film that puts less plastic by weight on every pallet.
